Bricks and Mortars of A Home
The Bricks and Mortars of A Home
Homemade soup on sick days, extra blankets to keep you warm, bedtime stories with hugs and kisses, shared laughter and tears. Being present on important events in a child’s life. Small rituals , acts, and gestures are all seeds to ready a child moving into an adult world. The role of a parent or guardian is challenging, yet never to be undervalued or taken lightly. Parenting a child is to be selfless , in many respects, to help prepare a child for adulthood and a world in which at times will be demanding, scary, and cruel. These seeds are the beginnings of the bricks and mortars that will sustain and rejuvenate a child as they move into adulthood and as their world expands farther away from their home. Memories of these rituals and practices offered consistently and in unconditional love start as seeds in order for the child to grow into the skills needed for the now adult and to create a healthy self awareness, healthy boundaries in relationships and with self. Memories to cherish and remind her that she is loved, that he is important. It’s not the structure that we identify as home. It’s these seeds of unconditional and selfless acts in raising a child to weather what comes for them in their adult life.
